Most of the trees in the theater are real trees, hollowed out to fit over an obtrusive support beam. We then hunted for the perfect tree branches, stripped off all the leaves and replaced them with silk leaves. The large tree was different to say the least. There were 2 beams that supported the roof on this part of the house and were only 12"s apart. YUK!.  The big tree was shaped with discs cut from 2x12s, then glued and screwed between the beams. (it can be seen HERE) Afterwhich it was encircled with 25 1x2 pine furring strips (seen HERE) and then gooped with 25 lbs of wood putty. With technics learned from the mural artist, I was able to paint the "tree" to fool everyone who enters into thinking its a real tree trunk.!
